Recently, we planted our very first garden. I can remember growing up, my grandparents always having a garden and knew that I wanted one. Jacob was none too thrilled about the idea but as always, went along with another one of my crazy adventures.
Not having a very big yard to work with and very little space, I knew I would have to settle for using a planter box. Luckily, Pinterest was full of ideas but building one myself would have cost a lot. Did you know you can't use treated wood for a vegetable garden? Yea, me either. I've read that the treated wood is made with arsenic and obviously that is not something you want you veggies absorbing. I priced cedar and red wood and it was all just too expensive to buy individually, so I settled for this...
(This is not my garden)
I purchased 2 of these from Home Depot for around $40.00 a piece. Of course they are now on sale for $30....oh well. You can find them here.
I am very pleased with the way they turned out, even though we couldn't get it completely level. I am excited to see everything grow and what I will be able to produce. We've planted squash, pickles, tomatoes, jalapenos, beans, onion and okra. So hopefully out of one of these, we'll get something.
Here's how it turned out...
Almost done...
And the finished product....
I'm still needing to add the tomatoe cages but will do that once the tomatoes start to grow.
Anyone else have a planter box garden? How did it turn out for you?
